Door Stops

It seems that West Cheshire Council are propping up (or should that be open?) the local economy with by purchasing plenty of door stops. More info here.

Hmm. One of those things that sounds good in theory but doesn't often work out in practice. The purpose of a door isn't always to keep people out, it's often to provide a bit of privacy.

For example, when I had to go and tell my boss that I had to get on the next plane home because my father was very ill, and then promptly burst into tears (hey, I'm not proud), I was very grateful to be in a private office having that conversation. Yes, in an open-plan environment, I could have asked to meet my manager in a meeting room, but even that would prick the ears of co-workers, and what if the room was already booked for a meeting?

And the role of managers is such that they are often meeting with people or having telephone conferences etc, which just adds extra noise to an open-plan environment.
